Warren’s Prayer

I have a sweet one year old son named Warren. I put him to bed most nights and without fail there is that moment while I snuggle with him and my heart is so full of thankfulness that I think it will burst. Right after that comes the sobering thought that I and my husband are stewards charged with teaching this little person how to grow up right. His life is pretty much a blank book and how he learns to view God, life, and others has a lot to do with what we teach and model for him. I pray over him as I put him to sleep and while I speak the words, words about the man I pray he will be and the character I pray he will develop, it’s a silent prayer for myself and my husband: God help us.

I absolutely believe in the power of words and speaking the truth over your children.  This prayer could seem like just a list of nice words but I’m reminded every night as I verbalize them how profound and meaningful they are:

Warren, I speak life over you, I speak peace over you, I speak faithfulness over you, I speak joy over you, I speak wisdom over you, I speak protection over you, I speak favor over you, I speak self control over you, I speak provision over you, I speak grace over you, I speak boldness over you, I speak kindness over you, I speak integrity over you, I speak faith over you.

You will know the Lord, you will love the Lord and you will serve the Lord.  We love you and pray that God will help us be the best parents we can for you.

You are amazing parents. And Warren is blessed to have parents like you who will teach him God’s love, peace, and will for his life. Such a beautiful prayer. It touch my heart. I pray all parents could be like y’all. “Bring a child up in the way he shall go and he will not depart from it”.

    Love you guys!

Beautiful, Meg. You have such a way with words, a lovely gift. I am hanging this prayer above my baby’s changing table where it will be visited frequently and will remind me of what is truly important. Thank you!
